About

A bit about me

I’m a barrister specialising in IP and tech litigation. In my spare time, I write about computers, AI and the law, take photos, play music, and various other things.

What I do

I write, talk, and hopefully persuade, together with a larger team of senior and junior lawyers.

Currently

  • Playing around with WordPress 7
  • Coding a law citation checker
  • Finally editing my old photos
  • Searching for a new violin

Background

I was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia. I completed bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science and Law at the University of Melbourne, then worked as a solicitor at Mallesons. I was very fortunate indeed to be offered funding to complete doctoral studies at the University of Oxford, and I later developed my thesis into a practitioners’ textbook on intermediary liability. In 2012, I was called to the London Bar and have been at a specialist IP set, 8 New Square, ever since.

In my spare time, I play violin, build and play with computers, and hike up mountains to take photos (and, when permitted, fly drones). I love opera, classical music, and reading sci-fi.

Why this site?

I’ve tinkered around with this website on and off since about 2003. I used to run a website development business, which put me through high school and undergraduate studies. This is mainly an excuse to experiment with modern CMS frameworks, design patterns, and build toolchains.

Design

An experiment in creating a responsive theme that works on desktop and mobile, supports modern features (dark mode!), and breaks gracefully.

Ideas

This provides a longer form and slightly more considered medium than social media for the presentation of ideas unrelated to my work.

Photos

I wanted an easy and platform-independent way to share edited photo galleries with family and friends from around the world.

Let’s work together

Have a project in mind, or just want to say hello? I’d love to hear from you.
